Welcome

If you enjoy teaching, so will your students. If you don’t resonate with your class, please let us know, and we will find you a better match. Fun is an essential part of what we do to make programming an enjoyable experience for kids.

Expectations

• Review The League Program Overview.
• Attend 6 teacher meetings per year.
• For the level you are teaching:
  • Become familiar with the educational goals of the level you are teaching.
  • Read the “Certificate Topics” document.
  • Review the Exams (written + coding).

Setup

• First step is to configure all of the necessary software: Software Configuration
• The League’s computers should be set up with the software that is needed, but you should become familiar with all of the software that will be used in class
• You will receive an email notice when your new jointheleague.org gmail address has been created.
• You will receive an invitation to create an account on LeagueHub (frontdesk) which is the scheduling/attendance/parent portal.

Teaching

• Before class:
  • Prepare for your class by reading any Teaching Notes associated with an exercise, and completing the exercise, or checking out the Solution.
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes early to make sure you have enough computers for your class. The computers should all be logged out and on the user selection screen.
  • Print any worksheets you need for your class. Locate laminated sheets if necessary.
  • Write the recipes you have planned on the whiteboard to use as reference during the class.
• After class:
  • Have students commit their work to GitHub.
  • Encourage students to demo their work to parents if possible.
  • Take attendance. Here's a video tutorial for taking attendance.
  • Plan the exercises for next week.
• You will be assigned a Lead Teacher to answer any questions and coach you to give the students the best learning experience.

Schedule

• You will be assigned a class or classes that each meet once per week.
• If you cannot teach a class (illness, vacation, final exam, etc…), please give us as much advance warning as possible and press the "I Need a Sub!" button above.
• We have a substitute teacher roster for times when you are away.
